I work with high-achievers to make great career decisions,
perform with confidence and succeed at work.
I’m Tara Huber, PhD - professional and career coach, workshop facilitator and speaker. I believe STEM training sets us up for career satisfaction in and outside of the lab. My goal is to help you make the most of your scientific training, advance in your career and do work that matters to you.
Having worked in elite research institutions - conducting research, training and mentoring scientific talent, and overseeing various research administration functions I understand the real issues faced by those trained and working in the sciences.
I support clients through a course of coaching sessions. These are conversations that unpack what you want to achieve and develop a way forward to achieve your goals.
I deliver workshops that address challenges in the scientific endeavour – whether on career development, mentoring, or performance they are designed for your organization’s/team’s situation.
Have me speak at your event – I bring a combination of head and heart to each engagement. I speak on topics typically related to career transitions, professional and/or personal development.

Tara knew how to get me to reflect on previous experiences, what I did well and what I could have improved. She encouraged me to develop personal goals and an action plan. Often steps were required that were outside my usual “comfort zone”, however with her support they were not impossible to accomplish. She helped me overcome the fear of saying no and appreciating myself, my own time and value of a balanced work & personal life. I have now successfully achieved a post which both amalgamates teaching and research, which aligns as close as possible to my ideal job.
I was skeptical about coaching as I thought I could figure it out by myself. I realized my situation was not improving and I needed to seek help. Tara was able to help me dissect the fundamental issues I was facing. She asked good questions and was very patient with me, helping me to discover myself and go straight to the root of the problems. I like that she never gave me the answer to my question, but guided my thinking to find the answer for myself.
Tara helped me with a potential career opportunity. It was a case of staying at my current job that I love or transition to a job with a large MNC. It was a very tough choice. Our sessions were informative on what questions to ask other than the obvious. A coaching exercise is essential when faced with a tough choice.
I really enjoyed how coaching gave me the time and space to dedicate to thinking about what I wanted and how I could get there. Tara was able to understand the difficulties of trying to build an academic career and empathise with the difficulties of making big career transitions. By the end of our coaching sessions I had a lot more clarity about myself, my career skills and what drove me.
